   Col. A. L. Rives, Actg Chf of Engineer Bureau at Richmond Va. will pay the above balance amounting to Two hundred and ninety seven thousand & twenty four 40/100 Dollars ($297,024.40) to Charles L. Schlatter, President of the Brunswick & Albany Railroad Company of Georgia, or order and charge to "Engineer Appropriation."

The receipt of this account by the Brunswick & Albany R. R. Co. shall not be construed as abandoning their right to recover the $299,550.3 attached as the property of alien enemies. That amount is in controversy between the Company & the Receiver at Savannah & the Confederate States will hold it subject to the decision of the court.
