Accompanying this I have your
account of Ala & Fla. RR Co. of Fla. For iron taken by officers of
the Confederate Government from their road and used for Government
purposes, together with receipts of Col Sam’l Tate
Lieut Poole and Gen’l D. Leadbetter for the iron embraced in
the account. Also an estimate by John T Gilmer Esq. Chief Engineer of
North and South Alabama Rail Road made out under the direction of
Brigadier Gen’l Leadbetter showing the amount required to restore
the road to the condition it was in at the time the iron was removed. |
| Being in Richmond for the purpose of a
settlement with the Government, allow me to hope that you will cause
the necessary steps to be taken to arrive at the result with as little
delay as possible. |
