Sir,
   At the instance of Hon. A. E. Maxwell Senator from the State of Florida, I send you papers relating to the claim of the Ala & Fla R R Co (of Fla) against the Confederate Government to the end the amount claimed might if you thought proper be embraced in your Estimates submitted to Congress.
   The papers Marked A ??? application to you to have specie Bonds issued in payment of the claims of the company for iron seized for the purposes of the Government. The paper ??ed be the reason why you were correct to issue Confederate Bonds instead of ???
   The amount received for our iron was $273,752.36. Our original application for Bonds was $273,700 Concluding afterwards to invest $150,000 in ??? ??? -- left to be invested in Bonds $123,700.00.
   The deposit was made on the 5th of June 1863
   For the amount of this deposit, application will be made to Congress in accordance with your suggestions for permission to Exchange the ??? Bonds for 8 per cent Bonds
   We think for reasons given in papers Marked C, interest should have been allowed on the amount awarded us by the Comptroller from the time our iron was seized 9th May 1862 to the time of final settlement 5th June 1863 -- and application will be made to Congress this winter to have this interest allowed to us.
