| In pursuance of Special Order
No 199(?) you will please proceed to South Western Geo. and East Ala.
and examine into and correct all delay ??ies you may find in the action
of any agents sent to purchase or ship ??? for this Army. Maj. A. N.
Bryan ??? the purchasing Agents in South Western Geo. and has been
furnished with funds to purchase corn to a large amount and no corn has
been received from him since the Army reached this place. Maj Bryan has
also been furnished with Transportation for hauling the corn purchased
to the depots on the Rail Roads. His purchases are reported by him to
have been made on the South Western Geo. RR and Macon & Brunswick Rail
Road. You will please ascertain the cause of the delay in the shipment
of corn from Maj Bryan and correct the same. Maj J. W. Goodwin has been
sent to Macon and other points to provide sufficient RR transportation
for all stores coming to this place. Please see him and ascertain what
has been done, and if you find in any instance the RR transportation
insufficient, make any arrangement in our power to effect the object
required. You are hereby authorised to do so. |

Eufaula Ala. is chf purchasing agent in East Ala, but has received
orders to ship all his corn to this Army by Maj Leuhouser the controling
Qr Master of Ala. See him and urge him to send forward corn as fast as
he can. It is necessary to accumulate here a supply of 20 days forage,
for this Army, above their daily consumption. This will require at least
30 car loads here daily. Do all you can -- send forward everything. |
