Sir,
I have understood that at many of the way stations along our RRoads a considerable quantity of potatoes have been collected, packed in bags and stored, awaiting transportation. This information may possibly be erroneous, but if such is the fact, I suggest that it would be well that they be stored in some different manner by which they might be protected from the frost. Considerable of those sent to the army are frosted & unfit for issue, thereby creating a loss. We have no means of protecting them against frost as weather may now be considered severe. I suggest that the supply of this article be preserved for issue in the spring or else have them issued now to the local troops giving this army the meat thus saved.
