| My Dear Sir, |
| On thursday evening I had by the
directions of Superintendent Whitcomb eight horses two mules & one two
horse ambulance sent to the Central Depot at Richmond -- also two four
horse ambulances sent to the RF&P RR Depot to be carried as far as the
Junction, there to be transferred to the CRR & with the ambulance &
horses before mentioned to be forwarded to Staunton on friday. The
medical purveyor at Richmond assured me that the medical supplies for
Col. Gilham's regiment should be sent to the Central Depot on thursday
evening. Col Gilham's regiment has gone forward to Montery & I have been
left here to forward the ambulances & medical supplies; as yet nothing
has reached here but the eight horses. The two four horse ambulances I
understand from a Captain of the Mail train have been in a flat at the
Junction since friday evening -- where the two horse ambulance & the two
mules to pull it are I dont know. I would not trouble you about this
matter except that it is imperative & necessary that the medical
supplies should be sent in our regiment -- there are ??? whose wants can
not be attended to & besides at Montery whither the regiment has found
there are many sick & no medicines (the medical supplies having been
captured in the recent battle. |
