Tredegar Iron Works

Richmond 19 Sept 1861

To Mr. ???
The Secy of War

Sir,
The accompanying Com Memorandum from Major Th. R. Sharp, Special Agent of the Government, refers to a subject which we regard of much importance to the Confederacy at that time. The scrap Rails could now be used by us in the manufacture of work for the Government which may be delayed in consequence of our inability to obtain the necessary raw materials and in the present emergency we are willing to take the materials on the terms stated by Major Sharp say at Thirty five Dollars per ton of 2240 pounds delivered at the Depot of the Virginia Central Rail Road Company in this city.
Very respectfully
J. R. Anderson & Co
