Dear Maj., |
Your telegram recd We have at this time 3
of our best trains & 47 cars abroad. One somewhere with the
coffee, two others somewhere with troops ordered by Maj Whitford.
The w house at Gaston being full and the P. R. R. for good reasons not
taking freight, with 32 loaded cars of ours standing there we had to
stop at Raleigh receiving from the No Ca RR for a day or to until
matters could return. |
We will commence hauling to Gaston again
tomorrow, tuesday If however the Petersburg Co cant move, we shall be
compelled to stop until they can, as all our cars will be loaded.
Replying to your dispatch yesterday with regard to the coffee, it was
put on our train at Wilmington for Weldon, on getting there, it could
not be unloaded for the want of room in the w house. It was necessary
soon after its arrival, to take the Engine to carry up to Raleigh our
passenger train, having broken an axle under the tender going down (near
Weldon) that day. Our Supt Mr Dunn ordered the coffee up to Gaston, that
it might be unloading in the Petersburg w house distance being the same
to Petersburg and believing it would be a matter of convenience to that
Company to have it there. On its arrival the QMaster gave total ???
receipts for it & would not unload it in the ??? weather referred to me
& I immediately ordered the 1st train of ours arriving at Gaston to take
it through to Petersburg which was done but the train has not returned. |
I am yours truly |
