Dear Sir, |
Col Tate was here yesterday and is anxious
to make a thro Rate from Memphis to Richmond and intermediate Points
(Cities) as low or nearly so as the Va Route. He made the distance via
lower route 1156 miles -- our proportion is 20 cents in Present rate.
If 138 -- 20 cts what will 1156 -- give $167 for 4th class Freight. By
the upper route it is $132. He said for $150 for 100 lbs -- Memphis to
Richmond he could send plenty this way. The route could reduce 17 cts
pr 100 lbs and not feel it. ??? Ratio I told him this road would come
into the measure -- had you not Better give it consideration and get
up the Schedule -- you of course know the disposition of connecting
roads Beyond you towards Richmond. |

{Everything from To Mr Geo Yonge
to SC RR, and the word Copy, is in the same hand, very different from
the one that wrote the main letter. It is unclear why the letter was
being sent to Mr. Yonge, when Mr. Peake says the Georgia RR has
already agreed to the proposal.} |
