LVA, P 11/23/1863

Abstract of Transportation furnished by the Confederate States on Account of the Piedmont Rail Road in the Quarter ending on the 31st day of December 1863

Date 1863 By Whom Transportation Furnished Articles Transported Weight Pounds From What Point To What Point Conveyance or RR Remarks on Rates Amount
Nov 23 Capt H M Wallen AQM 9 Car loads RR cars
  " 7 chairs 225,000 Burkesville Danville Va R&D RR
" 8 Car loads RR Iron
            Total of all shipments $1980.90

Total amount of abstract on Quarterly Return of Capt JM Robinson to be charged to the Piedmont Rail Road Company

This is the only shipment of Iron for the Piedmont RR in the three months. Shipments of fodder and other animal foods are not included in this transcription (they requiring 10 pages of long forms to list). Remarks and Amount are too faint to read. The weight transported makes it likely that the 7 chairs were chairs, not car loads of chairs. This is almost certainly iron from the Roanoke Valley RR, with construction being south from Danville.
