| In reply to your letter of yesterday
concerning the soldiers attempting to pass with forged papers, I request
that they may be sent back to this city, or to the place from whence
they came. In regard to the proposition of the citizens of Petersburg to
receive the wounded, you will place express to them the thanks of this
Department & say, if the necessity should exist, their invitation will
be gladly accepted |
