{From the minutes of the Directors' Meeting of the Virginia Central RR, September 2, 1864}
 
Richmond Sept 2d 1864
   At a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Central Railroad Company, present
  E Fontaine President
  W Overton Directors
  Jacob Baylor  
  N B Hill  
   Resolved, that in view of all that has transpired in reference to the difficulty between the Company and the P M Genl on the subject of the Mails, the Board approves the course of the President in declining to sign the contract without some modification to protect the interests of the Company.
   Resolved, that the President endeavor to purchase the warehouse at Afton Station, if it can be done on reasonable terms, and in case it can be done that Wm P Jarman Esqr be appointed agent at that Station
   Resolved further that the Prest endeavor to purchase the dwelling house and ground adjacent, at Afton, if it can be done on reasonable terms.
   A letter from Maj Genl Gilmer C. S. A. on the subject of removing the Rails from the Road west of Goshen Station was read and referred to the Prest to obtain further explanations from Genl Gilmer relative to the subject. {the last 28 miles of the road}
