| The reply of Maj Genl Gilmer to the
letter of the President relative to the terms on which the
Government propose to take up some of the iron West of Goshen having
been read and considered, It was resolved |
| That on the subject of guarding the
bridges West of Milborough the Prest and Supt make such arrangements
as in their judgements may seem best |
| Resolved, that while the Directory would
prefer to keep the iron which thee Government proposes to take, yet
yielding to the public necessities mentioned by Genl Gilmer, the
Board accepts his offer of 7 per cent per annum on $600 (six hundred
Dollars) per ton for the bars and sixty cents per lb for the chairs
and spikes, the iron &c to be returned in six months after a treaty
of peace; considering it as fair an offer as the Government could
make under existing circumstances |
| Resolved, that it is opinion of this
Board that it is important to the interests of the Government as
well as to the Company that the track should be kept open to
Milborough Depot {20 miles from the end of the
track} |
| Resolved, that all other points relative
to this matter be left to the discretion of the President and
Superintendent. |
