The following letter from the President of the No Ca R.
R. Co was read: |
"Office North Carolina R R Co |
Company Shops, Aug. 5, 1864 |

Gentlemen, |
At the annual meeting of the Stockholders
of this Company held in Raleigh July 14th the following resolution was
adopted to which I respectfully call your attention and would ask your
active cooperation should it meet with your views. |
'Resolved that the President &
Directors of this Company be instructed to correspond with all the
connecting Railroad Companies in the Confederacy, with a view to
organize an Express Company to be composed of Said Railroad
Companies.' |
Should you take any action upon the
subject, I hope you will communicate with me at your earliest
convenience. |

Mr. Gourdin then offered the following
resolution which was adopted. |
"Resolved, that this Company approves
the resolution of the North Carolina Railroad Company in relation to
the organization of an Express between connecting Railroads and that
this Company will be prepared to act in the premises whenever it is
practicable to do so." |
