{Letter to N. C. Governor Z. B. Vance, but not so stated on the published version.}

  Your request to the Rail Road companies of this place that they will not transport any more Salt out of the State is very properly respected by them. This operates very hard on parties who purchased Salt previous to the promulgation of the request.
   I have on hand about 200 Bags for different parties in South Carolina sold & paid for by them from a week to a month ago, & awaiting transportation.
   If your excellency is of the opinion that this Salt should go forward in justice to all parties I will feel very grateful if you will give me permission to ship the same also to enclose to me a permit to that effect.
   I refer you to Major Mallett of your city for my character and standing.
   I would here state that the most if not all of this Salt would have been sent forward in October but from the fact that the writer was down with the yellow fever & his clerk dead of same disease & office closed for five weeks.
A. E. Hall

On reverse
Ansr. that all salt paid for previous to order can go forward.
