President's Report |
|
President and Directors' Report |
|
To the Stockholders of the W. & W. Rail Road
Company |
|
The President and Directors
of your Road submit the following report, which, with the reports of the
Superintendent and Treasurer, will exhibit the condition of the Road and
its business for the past fiscal year. |
***** |
After the closing of the ports by blockade large
investments were made in Confederate bonded securities, which are now
worthless. A large quantity of cotton was bought, nearly all of which
was destroyed in the closing days of the war. |
With much of the track destroyed, nearly all the bridges
burnt, the operations of the Road were resumed with four locomotive
engines, eleven box and five platform cars, and no passenger car fit
for service; several of the warehouses had been burnt and many old
ones needed rebuilding. |

Respectfully submitted, |
R. R. Bridgers |
President |
