Committee of Examination's Report |

Report of the Examining Committee |
|
To the Stockholders of the Petersburg Rail Road Co.:
|
|
Your Committee beg leave to report that they have
performed the duties required of them, in examining the Depots, Work
Shops, Road, &c., and taking into consideration the immense amount
of travel and transportation, found them in much better order than
could be expected.
|
A portion of your Committee, from time to time, have
visited the Road, and on the 10th inst., the whole Committee,
accompanied by one of the Directors, (the President being too unwell
to attend,) examined the entire Road, Depots, Bridges and Shops, and
are pleased to say that but with slight exception, found all in good
order.
|
We also examined the Depot and Offices in Petersburg. The
Depot, as heretofore reported, is in bad order, but cannot at present
be remedied.
|
We examined the Books, and the principle upon which they
are kept, and find them excellent, and we do not think can be
improved. The Books we found correct, showing an immense deal of labor
on the part of Col. D. G. Potts, the Treasurer.
|
We were carried through the different Work Shops, at
Mount Airy, by their efficient heads, Messrs. Andrews and Wright, who
as usual gave us all the information required of them. We think them
efficient and faithful officers.
|
We cannot close this Report without a passing compliment
to the Clerks, Conductors, Engineers and Agents on the Road. They are
steady, industrious and accommodating, and all seem to have the
interests of the Road at heart.
|
Respectfully submitted.
