| The great confusion produced
by the recent raid of the enemy on our Road, has prevented the
collection of the facts necessary to make out the usual tables to
accompany the Annual report until within a few days. The Chief
Engineer and General Superintendent has labored with great industry
and energy to put the road again in running order, and has been so
much employed on the line of the road, that he has not been able to
present his report until this morning. I am myself suffering under a
severe family affliction in the recent death of my son. Under these
circumstances, I am compelled to ask you indulgence in relieving me
from the duty of making a formal report. |

I herewith present the report of the chief Engineer and
General Superintendent, with the tables which accompany it. This
report presents all the material facts.
