Mr. R. R. Cuyler   {President, Central (of Georgia) RR}
Savannah, Georgia

My dear Sir,
   I don’t know how to thank you for your kind letters of the 13th and 17th inst. The Salt at Saltville is intended for our people in North Alabama, & I should have so advised you in my former letter. We can get it through from Chattanooga, & if your train can deliver it there, it can return, I hope, without inconvenience, &, perhaps with more expedition, to convey additional supplies for Georgia. I will send a messenger, on notice, to accompany the train, and make all needful advances, and will promptly remit, to your order, whatever sum you may deem proper to report, for the use of the train. The letter from Govr Brown – enclosed by you – is herewith returned.
   With a grateful heart, I am, your friend & obedient servant
Jno. Gill Shorter
Govr of Alabama
