| Your letter of the 24th ult. was recd.
some days ago. I enclose herewith one of the quadruplicate contracts
made with the Ala. & Ten. River R. Rd. Co. as per your request. The
objections made to vouchers No. 12 1st Quarter & No. 4 2d Quarter in my
returns, cannot now be obviated. The vouchers were taken and money paid
by Capt. J. A. Haydon. I was instructed by Col. Gilmer to instruct Capt.
Haydon with that particular service only, and to furnish the money. |

Mobile) I hope can be put in proper shape. |
| I can probably obtain from the Presdt of
the Ala. & Ten. R. R. R. Co. a certificate that A. M. Goodwin Esq. was
duly authorized to received the money paid him. |
| Genl. J. F. Gilmer has been with us for
some days past inspecting the works and examining the topography of the
country in our immediate vicinity. This will account for some delay in
my reply to yours of the 24th ult. |
