Major,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Maj Genl Gilmer's letter of the 24th ult. The orders of Col. J. J. Clarke Chief Engr confined me closely to the work around the city while it was supposed to be threatened. I am now engaged in organizing a force for rebuilding bridges and repairing track on the Geo R. Road under instructions from Col. Clarke in addition to the charge at this Post.
Your letter of the 2nd instant in relation to the purchase of medicines has been recd. Pending the decision of the Surgeon General I have been supplied by the Medical Purveyor with such Medicines as our immediate wants required. I am again sadly in need of money. The Second Auditor has not yet notified me of his requisition on the Treasy in compliance with your requisition of the 26th of Oct.
Very Respectfully
Yr obt svt
L. P. Grant
